It is very easy to convert smartphones into hotspots (Android and IOS) to share 3G/4G connection with other wifi receiving devices. However sharing Ethernet internet via hotspot in windows requires few steps. Connectify makes this process simpler and lets you share Ethernet internet with few clicks and minimal settings.
Installation Process of Connectify
The setup file of this software is ~8mb in size and during installation and it requires Microsoft .NET framework 4.5 and service pack 1 for windows 7. If you are using windows 8 then here is not need for additional download of .NET 4.5 framework (size ~38-70mb depending upon your current system state) . For Windows XP and Vista users the setup file is different to those of windows 8 and 7 users.
The rest of installation steps are quite simple and it will require restart to complete the installation process.
Initial Setup Process of Connectify
After your first restart you will be greeted with windows firewall prompt asking for request to unblock all features of connectify. Click on Allow Access button.
Connectify comes bundled with Dispatch tool that let you combine speed from multiple sources (wifi, dongle etc) for burst performance.
On first run you connectify will guide you through the process of setting up hotspot. If you have purchased PRO version then you will need to enter your login details otherwise click on “Use Connectify Light” button and this process will get skipped.
Click on Start Hotspot to start wifi hotspot.
Comparison of Free and PRO Version
Free version of connectify is sufficient for normal user. It lets you create hotspot for Ethernet connection. If you are carving for more features like sharing of 3g/4g internet, file sharing over wifi with drag and drop interface then PRO is the way to go.
Below is comparison chart for Lite and PRO versions
PRO version comes with two price options:
- $25 for Annual Licence
- $45 for Lifetime licence
Final Verdict
Connectify lite is worth a shot if you need quick solution to convert your windows device into hotspot however it would have been worth more if sharing of 3g/4g was included in free version itself.
As for the the pro version the subscription is little overpriced.
